A Perfect Place to Get Things Done
Having a space to go to for homework and learning outside the classroom - or the dorm room - is exceedingly helpful. The Learning Commons and The Learning Centre are in the Ross Academic Building and are both places where students can go to get things done whilst getting academic help, working on group projects, and learning important study and organization skills.
The Learning Commons is a meeting spot for most group projects as it provides breakout rooms, whiteboards, and tables and couches for working depending on your preference. It is also excellent for working on your own. Any time during the day, students can go to the Learning Commons to do homework in a calm and distraction-free environment. “I love the Learning Commons because it is a quiet place to get homework done” says Nevé M, Hope ‘23. Students can also go to Learning Commons Prep during our 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM homework time (Prep) weekday evenings.
Additionally, Brentwood provides an E-Commons website giving students access to numerous online academic resources such as research databases, citation machines, online library books, and Moodle. The librarians, Ms Mais and Ms Handley, can also provide assistance with citations, formatting, writing, and proof-reading.
The Learning Centre, which is in the Learning Commons, is a place for students with learning exceptionalities to go during their spare block. If you have a learning exceptionality, you can take a spare academic block and go to the Learning Centre to do homework and learn essential academic skills. The school website accurately reports that your can practice “note-taking, time management, organization, and personal management skills, study strategies, exam-taking skills, effective assistive technology and self-advocating skills” in the LC. “My Learning Commons block is so helpful because it eases my stress during the day and the teachers there are really helpful,” says Ange S, Hope ‘22.
Brentwood’s Learning Commons and Learning Centre are productive and quiet spaces for students who enjoy a bright, oceanside, helpful learning environment to work in.
