A Season of Heart and Hustle

This season was no ordinary one for the Brentwood Junior Boys Soccer team. The group’s hard work was evident in all of their matches, from their showing in their local league, their impressive feats at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Championships, and, most importantly, their performance at the Junior Boys Island Championships. Their tenacity under pressure was exceptional, showcasing their ability to be able to rise to the occasion

Kicking off the season, the junior boys showed amazing grit and resilience at the Junior ISAs. We performed extremely well as a collective allowing many players to showcase their skills. We were fortunate enough to reach the finals against St. George’s. Despite a gritty effort in a spectacular final, the junior lad fell short in a heartbreaking penalty shootout.

We had to pick up our heads quickly for our next games as the league was officially starting. We had both Francis Kelsey and Gulf Islands in their zone to compete for their spots at the Island Championship. We dominated their zone, finishing 4-0, and secured a good placement at Islands.

The crew was ready to face their toughest opponents at Islands. They made short work of their first two matches and were feeling confident heading into the semifinals against Royal Bay. After a tight game, the squad fell, losing 2-0. Devastated, we questioned what they wanted. Regardless we had one more game against Isfeld to claim bronze, and succeeded.

While the team’s success was a huge group effort, it was also defined by some incredible player performances. On defense, goalie Patricio V, Rogers ‘29 made fascinating saves and Pedro G, Privett ‘29  was among the league's best defenders. Up front, players including Patricio B, Ellis ‘29 and Cris P, Privett ‘28 made mezmerizing plays to score unbelievable, clutch goals and team captain Connor T, Whittall ‘28 was absolutely amazing on both ends of the pitch.

This season wasn’t just about the outcomes of games; it was a season about watching a group of young men come together and embody the very best of what it means to be a student-athlete. The school looks forward to seeing what the team will achieve next as they continue to grow and represent Brentwood on the pitch.

The team deserves a big congratulations on this truly remarkable season that they gave us. Their hard work, sportsmanship, and passion for the game have been an inspiration to the entire Brentwood community.

We would like to thank our coaches, Mr Toby Collis Hanford, Mr Paul Collis, and Mr Wes Barrett for their fantastic leadership.
