A Splendid Senior Soccer Season
After three years on the Brentwood Senior Soccer team, it’s hard for me to believe that this chapter has come to an end. As the final whistle blew on our season, I found myself reflecting not just on the games we played but on friendships built, lessons learned, and moments that will stay with me long after graduation.
Our team may have been small in numbers, but we were unmatched in spirit. Bena DeCenzo, Allard ‘25, accurately described the squad’s hustle with this phrase: “Small team with big energy.”
Coach Barrett captured the essence of our team best saying, “The Soccer program this year was made up of 37 very keen soccer players from Grade 8 thru 12. The juniors progressed and had a huge hand in playing up and complimenting the Seniors while the Grade 11/12 core group showed experience and pose and every game they played. Those not returning will be missed and we thank them for their commitment and dedication to soccer at the school.”
This season came to an early close when we were unable to attend a key tournament for the BC Provincials qualification. It was a tough setback, but we kept our heads up and came out on top of our Shawnigan rivals during our Showcase game. It was characterized by its electric atmosphere, comparable to the energy of Lightning McQueen’s famous, “KA-CHOW!”
As I look back, I am reminded of the final time I laced up my cleats for Brentwood, Captain Addison Chadwick, Allard ‘25, expressed it perfectly: “After reflecting on the last three years immersed in the soccer program here at Brentwood, it was such a bittersweet moment stepping onto the pitch for the last time at our Showcase game against Shawnigan!”
As seniors, our journey with Brentwood soccer may be over, but its impact stays with us. Thanks to our coaches, our younger teammates, and everyone who supported us from the sidelines.
Grace Sisett, Allard ‘25
