Alex In-House Breakfast
Rolling out of bed and having a breakfast spread seems quite ideal, doesn’t it?
Well, the Alex Grade 12s made sure to give their House exactly that. Preparations began on Friday evening when the girls transported the food from Crooks to the house and organized their shifts. By 7:45 am on Saturday, the stove was on, the oven was blazing, and the microwave was spinning.
From bacon to eggs to waffles, the Grade 12s made it all. With each station bustling with noise, the house was gradually woken up, and soon enough, the Juniors seeped into the kitchen and hoarded as many waffles as they could. Maria C, Alex ‘27, “loved that they didn’t have to change from her pyjamas and could enjoy some good food!”
After bolting from one side of the kitchen to the other, Neha V was finally able to cook enough eggs for the upcoming herd of Grade 11s. From depleting the maple syrup to devouring the bacon, nothing but scraps were left for the seniors. Toluwani A, Alex ‘24 “was aware the House likes food, but witnessed some unhinged, ravenous children in action that morning”.
The experience was tremendous, one that truly fosters genuine connections, even though half the house may be yelling at each other. Mrs Warner, Alex Houseparent, finds “in-house breakfasts are a great way to bring students together and a great way to start a Saturday. It is a chance to sleep in, have a lazier morning, and lots of time spent with housemates listening to chill music and enjoying good food and good company.”
