Alexandra House

28 June 2012
Taryn O, Head of House
It has been a year full of excitement and sisterhood in Alexandra. It became a home to 20 new girls in September, and we have grown together. Between ice cream, dodgeball and bowling with Whittall, the house has found time to honour our traditions (Assassination!) and enjoy our days together.

Our Grade 9s have already become feisty, much different from the shy girls who joined us in the fall. The top floor has been a constant jumble of giggling and laughs thanks to our lively little ones. These girls have already found a niche and have rooted themselves well for the years to come.

The 10s stuck their feet into the life of exploration. This has been invaluable for these girls as they prepare themselves for the whirlwind of next year. The class has diversified and begun to identify their strengths, and with dedication and spirit they have started to shape themselves: I couldn’t be more impressed with the people they are becoming.

Oh, the 11s: they have worked so hard to become the leaders we knew they could be. As they face the prospect of running the school with a new Head of School, I can look at them and say with confidence that Alex House will remain a terrific home under their guidance. With effort, integrity and an ability to make the most of anything, they are ready to step into their roles.

Then there are the 21 graduates. We have all been so blessed to have gone through this journey together. We have produced some of the most fantastic graduates in the school, and have led the house well. I know that this is not the end of our time together, but a bump along the way, because Alex House will always remain in our hearts.

This year has been a flash before our eyes. Within these walls, secrets, makeup, tears, and lives have been shared. Purple has become not just a colour but a symbol of pride, and one cannot recall “Don’t be a quick chick” without immediately connoting it with a Jamaican accent. A thank you to the Warners and Maisy for putting up with us throughout the year, and to our incredible duty staff who make prep just a little more enjoyable. Home is where your heart is, and so a part of all the graduates will always be here, with you.

With Love, Taryn Ouellet, Alex House Captain
