Allard Fun!
Summer is in the review mirror, and a new school year has arrived with a bang as many returning students sacrificed the final days of their summer holiday in order to welcome new students. Since then, school life has been very, very busy.
The biggest news in Allard House is the departure of the legendary Mr Smith and his family, who have left 14 shoes (some large, some very, very small) to fill as our new Assistant Houseparent, Ms Waugh, steps in. Along with Ms Waugh, Allard welcomed 31 rookies and two new BFAs, Ms Guy and Ms Nice. With many new faces and bonds to create, Allard started to get to know each other very well.
The End of Summer Bash thrown by the SAC was a night of chaos and laughter flooding out of the common room, along with some bad dance moves here and there and some girls playing Just Dance. “Doing those things has been great” says Ms Waugh, when speaking about how, in just a week, these strangers who just met were comfortably having fun together and developing friendships over things like the classic game of Just Dance. “Three people started it. Then, in the end, there were about 12 people - and even the Houseparents joined,” recalls new student Lucy M, Allard ‘28. She added that the struggle to get through the notoriously difficult Rasputin dance really "brought some of the girls together." With an open mind, she is ready for what boarding life has to offer and the friendships she is going to make.
With lots of fun in Allard House, from Gwyn Groups or supporting one another during Interhouse Events, everyone will create a connection like no other. Returning student Joanne C, Allard ‘28, remembers her first few weeks in Allard, where she thought “Everyone seems so happy here,” which is most definitely the dynamic that Allard tries to carry throughout the school.
I believe that this school year is going to be one to remember, especially with all the fun we are about to have! Get ready for ten months full of unforgettable moments, inside jokes, and friendships that will last a lifetime. This is going to be one wild wave!
Just keep swimming, Mermaids.
