Behind the Scenes in Messina
The Killy Theatre, the setting for the weekly assembly, boisterous concerts, and lively interhouse events, has recently welcomed with warm arms the Senior Play’s cast & crew. Its expansive, black stage has awaited the actors like a canvas awaiting the brushstrokes of paint to bring it to life. The red velvet curtains have opened eagerly, ready to reveal the production to come.
The production?
Much Ado About Social Media, written by Brentwood’s drama teacher, Mr Ivan Nikolic.
This play is a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The original play centers around two love stories, one of which is love at first sight, and another which is between enemies. However, a malicious plot, or rather a tornado, tears through both stories. The Senior Play cast has worked tirelessly for months to learn their lines and transform into their characters in order to bring Nikolic's twist on Shakespeare's play to life on the Bunch stage.
The play, starring eight high school students, has been as “one of the greatest experiences of my life” noted Andrea Y, Allard '27 and on April 9th, 10th, and 11th, the entire Brentwood community will get to be a part of it.
“At this point, the crew has rehearsed their lines over a million times. Although it's been a rocky road, I know that they are ready to perform!” Nikolic commented.
This crew is ready to perform. This crew is eager to act. This crew is prepared to execute. With the play under a month away, the cast is prepared to take on every challenge together, knowing that hard work will reward them, and the Brentwood community, with a stellar play.
