BRAINiacs On Tour
In a mind-boggling field trip this week, BRAIN (Brentwood Research Action and Innovation for Neuroscience) student members got the chance to take a peek into the world of neuroscience and neurotechnology.
We travelled to Surrey for a day of learning with PhD neuroscientist Dr. Ryan D’Arcy Privett, ‘90 president of Neurocatch Inc. The visit began with a tour of the company, including highlights like an expansive rooftop terrace, an Engineering design lab, and the Neurocatch production suite.
Sam Levy and Nikki Anderson, colleagues of Dr. D’Arcy, guided students around the Neuroplasticity Clinic, showcasing their advanced technologies, such as the Ammortal Chamber, a full-body red-light therapy device, and the Neurocon, a balance posturography machine used to help patients train on their balance.
Sean Choi, another guest speaker, explained the business development for the Neurocatch platform while Julia Joyes from the Center for Neurology Studies explained the importance and process of clinical trials. Finally, Kirk Fisher, the CEO of Lark Group, discussed the innovative business model behind the development of the Health and Technology District in Surrey.
Students engaged with these experts throughout the day asking thoughtful questions and gaining valuable insights into the cutting-edge world of neuroscience.
Thanks to Ms Lily Stewart and Mr Scott Doehler for leading us on this special field trip.
