Every year, Brentwood’s musicians put on two shows – Concert for a Winter’s Eve and Concert for a Summer’s Eve – in order to showcase their talent and all the hard work they have put in throughout the year. From violinists, to electric guitar players, to singers, these performers always create an evening of beautiful music for the audience to enjoy live.

As the academic year comes to a close and bands return to school from various music festivals, it is finally time. This evening, Friday, June 2nd, at 7:30 in the Killy Theatre of the Bunch Centre, Concert for a Summer’s Eve opens to the public, and it is sure to be a real treat for anyone attending.

“We students have been working hard to bring these performances to big stages across Canada, from music festivals at Whistler to Niagara Falls”, stated Ariel C, Privett ‘23,  “We’ve all put a lot of time and devotion into our performances and for many of us it’ll be our last performance on a big stage. We’re all excited to be doing this one last time”.

In addition to all the hard work the musicians have put into making this concert a success, the Theatre Production team has also been working overtime. Technical Director Kimberly Plough claimed that, “Production for the concert is a full ensemble endeavor” because the production team is required to create “visual landscapes [that] support certain ensembles and singers by creating a visual environment to enrich their pieces”. Ms Plough added that her students have managed to “work through how to change [lighting and sound] from one group to another with speed, elegance, and precision”, and that she is “looking forward to getting the rhythm and sense of the show during both the technical rehearsal and the dress rehearsal”.

Despite all the labor that went into the concert, putting on any kind of show at Brentwood is always a fun and positive experience, and it brings the school community together as many students work cooperatively towards one goal. “With the small amount of time we had to prepare for the Concert for a Summer’s Eve, I still had a great time”, said Lilja P, Alexandra ‘25, “It’s a lot of fun to hang out with the vocal ensemble as we workshop our songs and laugh the whole time. Yes, we’re singing together, but we’re also getting to know each other more and more throughout the year, which I think is pretty cool!”.

Concert for a Summer’s Eve is an excellent way to end off the school year by showcasing all the grit and joy that students have put into their Arts programs. You won’t want to miss it!
