Don’t Burn Out: Balancing UV Rays and Finals

As the spring sun comes out from behind the winter clouds, the students on campus begin gathering on the field to play sports or to hang out in the nice weather. It is finally that time of year, the third term at Brentwood! With the competitive sports season in full swing, the weather continues to spread joy across campus, as recent events such as Brentwood’s 54th Regatta and B-Well’s Break for Space become successful highlights for many of us students.

The fields begin to fill as groups of friends play spikeball, toss a football, kick rugby balls, or lie next to each other chatting. There are endless activities students have been indulging in, such as playing tennis or throwing frisbees back and forth across the field. It has been amazing to see the new interactions and bonds that being outside has brought. Eric A, Whittall ‘28 says, “I’ve really enjoyed making new friends by playing tennis and spikeball this term.”

While the sunshine is a welcome distraction, the reality of our year-end exams and “Senioritis” settles in for many students, not just the Grade 12s. In addition, the walk from class to class, sport to sport, and art to art becomes a nice stroll in the sun as the warmth soothes. As Fine S, Hope ‘30 adds, “It’s amazing being able to experience the nice sunshine during third term. I’ll definitely miss it!” The change of scenery acts as a natural reset button, as the flowers bloom and create an idyllic environment for the students and staff.

As we move deeper into the term, we get closer to the finish line, and with the momentum from the success of the Brentwood Regatta as well as Break for Space, the school is bouyant with spirit. The business of the end of the year begins soon, as we dive into more school events such as the Evening of Dance, Spring Formal, and Hope Open House. Mr Neufeld, Deputy of Head of School, reflects, “Every term at Brentwood is energetic, but there is something about the longer days and warmer weather that lifts the whole campus. From Service Day to Regatta to Break for Space, students have been engaged and thriving.”

So, if you are looking for us, you know where to find most of us: out on the field and making the most of every sunny second.
