Ellis House Tales
Ellis House has once again completed a terrific year. As the seasons went on and the number of brunches dwindled, our house began to feel like a family full of laughter, inside jokes, and fun. Many of these fun times were facilitated by the 9s, who always knew how to have a good time. The 10s seemed to either have absolutely nothing going on or be the busiest people on campus: their energy radiated through the hall until the very last minutes before bedtime. The 11s, I have no doubt, will be able to steer the house with their many strong leaders shaping the future of Ellis.
Ellis couldn't have made so many outstanding young men without the amazing duty staff we are so lucky to have: Mr Cowie on Mondays with 46 years of Ellis energy and his timeless jokes; Tuesday nights with Mr Skardal and his impressive ability to talk to any Ellis boy and email anyone, current student or not, for their birthday. Wednesday night is where the real work gets done, thanks to Ms Balbiani’s sternly regimented approach to prep. The 12s love Thursday because it usually means Mr Luna is there to help them with bedtime or have a hilarious nonsensical debate with any grade 10. Ms Stewart and Mr Wills have become great additions to the Ellis BFA history books, with their individuality and Ellis zest.
Mr Wismer, our caring Houseparent, is someone everyone respects and trusts. The Ellis boys, especially your graduating 12s, thank you for all of the life lessons you have taught us throughout the years, and will continue to teach us as we reflect and think back about our time in Ellis. Mr Barrett, although you are leaving Ellis, we know there will always be a part of you here. We all appreciate your energetic personality and kind-hearted late-night conversations even when they are past our bedtime. Your love for Christmas and giving makes Ellis feel like our home away from home. Whittall is lucky to have you as their next Houseparent. Lastly, I want to be the first to welcome Mr Collis Handford as our new Assistant Houseparent. I know your liveliness and mustache will be a force no grade 10 can argue with.
To the 12s, the glue that holds Ellis together, I am truly grateful for the connections I have made with all of you. Ellis wouldn't be Ellis without you boys. Thank you for the best year any of us could have imagined. Ellis House, best house.
