Fore Fun
Mark Twain once said, "Golf is a good walk spoiled." I beg to differ. Who wouldn't want to chase a little white ball around a field causing nothing but mental anguish for five hours? Well, many eager Brentwood students do! Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 24 students hop onto a bus to spend their sport afternoons playing a round of golf.
Sounds relaxing, right? On a beautiful day, take a stroll around the course, chat with your friends. But golf is anything but relaxing! Golf is one of the most mentally demanding sports out there, but Mr. Robinson and Mr. Garvey are determined to make us PGA and LPGA material!
It all starts with an early 1:45 bus departure to the Cowichan Golf Club. Arriving at the course, we, like our tee shots, split off into our separate ways, either onto the first tee box or into the pro shop to grab tokens for a day on the range.
Golf isn't the most exciting thing to read or hear about, I get it, but our Brentwood Golf Team is anything but boring! All Stars Calvin L, Privett '14, Tom W, Ellis '15, Max W, Ellis '14, Austin N, Ellis '16, and Captain Frank Z, Privett '16 are the best of the best. There's no stopping our competitive team!
Now you may have heard the rumour that golf is an acronym for "Guys Only, Ladies Forbidden." That's false. The Brentwood team has many female athletes such as Julie W, Alex '15, Lauren Y, Mackenzie '16, Brooke M, Alex, '16, and Kira C, Mackenzie '14.
The rest of the team consists of beginners, and intermediate players, all willing to learn and grow as golfers. The competitive team and some of the developing players compete in a number of tournaments such as ISA's , Islands, Provincials, and our very own staff-student play day.
As we head into spring, the temperature is rising and the team's scores are falling- a perfect combination! See you on the course!
