Sound the alarm because Brentwood sports fans can’t get enough of Winter Term competitive sports!

Term two offers many competitive sports options: with girls' and boys' competitive hockey and basketball, it has been a busy month for Brentwood athletes and fans, aka sign makers. All competitive teams have played in numerous tournaments and each hosted its own Showcase game, allowing students and staff to exhibit their school spirit with school-wide dress-up days, including colorful house spirit, playful monochrome, and lively black and red days.

Both the Senior Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams have been training since Orientation week to prepare for an intense competitive season. After months of rigorous games and tournaments, both teams are ranked by BC School Sports in the Top 10 of AA. The teams promptly defeated their competition like Roman gladiators in their respective Showcase games. Isaac R, Whittall ‘25 remarked, “It was bittersweet for all the Grade 12s to play - and thankfully - win our last Basketball Showcase game,” while Ella W, Mack ‘25 added, “It’s bittersweet to watch as well; we all have so many memories in this gym.” After the Showcase game, the seventh-ranked Sr Boys continued to train and placed third at the Countdown To Playoffs Tournament hosted at Brentwood while the girls went 2-1 at the RCMP Tournament at Belmont and defeated Salt Spring to win North Islands.

After entering the season unranked, the team has risen to eighth in the province: an extraordinarily impressive effort! Siera E, Mack ‘25 describes the season as “a great opportunity to stay competitive and continue to compete for Brentwood with an incredible team, especially with the relentless fan support!”

Siera, your enthusiasm is something the Brentwood community shares, and both teams' playoff runs are highly anticipated. Earlier today, the girls went 3-1 at Islands, finished third, and qualified for Provincials.

Of course, the Brentwood fans don’t stop at basketball. Staff and students recently packed Kerry Park to fiercely cheer on our competitive hockey teams. It was a victorious night for Brentwood as both teams successfully skated fast, passed sharp, and scored often, ending the night with two wins, deafening cheers, and witty signs. Girls Hockey Captain Bea B, Mack ‘25 appreciates the fans: “It was incredible to look into the stands and see all my friends and peers cheering the team on.” Our staff and student sections look forward to supporting both these teams and bringing that same intense atmosphere to the rest of the season.

Hockey fans should head to the rink this weekend as all of our teams will be hosting and competing in their season finale, the Ross Cup, Thursday through Saturday.

The Brentwood community couldn't be more excited to maintain our fierce support of Brentwood Athletics as we enter the final stretch of Term 2. Assistant Mackenzie Houseparent and Brentwood athletics superfan, Ms Manton, describes Term 2 sports as “The perfect opportunity for Brentwood students to embrace the cold weather and come together to support their peers!”

Congratulations to all the competitive teams on an already stellar season, and good luck as the postseason begins: Brentwood’s got your back.
