Grade 8 Adventures

What a joy these amazing Grade 8 students are! Whether playing a game on Crooks Common during break, strumming together in music class, or learning to row and kayak in PE, the inquisitiveness and positive energy of these 8s is infectious. These twenty-two remarkable young people arrived at Brentwood in September, and quickly embraced each other and the tripartite program. They developed their character and academic skills in the classroom, in the gym, on the sports fields, and on the stage.

Who can forget the Grade 8 musical! They put on a wonderful presentation of Superman. These young actors who reluctantly began the process in September were proud of the end product as they received a standing ovation for their final show. Students continued to develop their artistic skills in visual art class, and in guitar and ukulele lessons.

In addition to their artistic endeavours, students experienced a wide range of sports through their PE program and participated in hands-on science labs, creative inquiry projects, coding, sewing, car maintenance, and gardening lessons. These amazing 8s took their smiles and enthusiasm for experiential learning outdoors, too. A three-day introduction to each other and the Brentwood Campus started the year. We extended Winterlude to include an overnight experience with snowshoeing and avalanche preparation. A two-day camping and bike trip rounded out the year.

Yes, there were challenging days that included assignments, essays, tests, and homework. There were some days that seemed to go on forever. There were broken bones, sore muscles, and friendship struggles along the way. But, mostly, there were twenty-two exceptional young people living our Grade 8 Program values: being kind, being inclusive, and working hard. Congratulations to the 2022-2023 Grade 8 Program cohort for a fantastic year!
