Heal Fast, Play Hard

The third term rush of sports in the sun has begun to kick in, with students diving into rugby, rowing, soccer, tennis, squash, climbing and golf. Whilst in the bliss of all the fun, sometimes students forget to stretch, or accidents happen, and they are in need of athletic therapy.

As a part of Brentwood's sports program, athletic therapy offers students recovering from injuries a place and a program to get back on track. The athletic therapy program consists of 3 ATs, Tanya Scheck, Naomi Ogawa, and our newest member, Teagan Johnson.

Teagan received her Bachelor of Athletic and Exercise Therapy from Camosun College and previously worked at Saint Michael’s University School. She was drawn to Brentwood for its on-site clinic, which she says allows for “the best communication between the practitioner, coaches, and students”. Her favourite part of working at Brentwood? “The direct contact with an athlete from the beginning of their injury, all the way until full recovery.” She also loves the variety Brentwood offers, adding, “Diversity is the key to keeping work interesting and staying passionate about it, and I believe an environment like Brentwood really fosters that.”

The athletic therapy clinic deals with a wide variety of injuries, ranging from concussions and sprains to post-operative ACL repairs. Our therapists do deep assessments of each case individually using a combination of hands-on treatment, exercise-based rehab, rehabilitation, and education to guide a steady recovery. Some of the clinic's main goals are to help individuals heal properly, regain strength and mobility, and safely return to their sports.

But athletic therapy at Brentwood isn’t just about recovery. It’s about building long-term health. Basma J, Allard ‘25 comments, “Athletic therapy has been imperative to me for my three years at Brentwood through all my injuries. I feel that I have the proper knowledge to carry me on to take care of future injuries.” Miguel B, Whittall ‘25 adds, “After I tore my ACL, athletic therapy allowed for me to have a steady recovery and be able to join sports in my senior year, which was super important to me.”

Our athletes wouldn’t be able to perform at their best without the unwavering support and expertise of our athletic therapy team. We are deeply grateful for the dedication, care, and commitment - they truly are the best at what they do.
