Heaven’s Kitchen
On Monday mornings the wheels of the Trans Canada highway tiredly awaken to the spectacle of blurred median lights. They are habitually arriving to face the familiarity of a puddled lane leading to Brentwood’s parking lot. The primitive hour is starkly apparent as the angelic and personable cafeteria employees meander towards the beckoning lights, at 5:00 am, never failing to produce a smile. They are smiling because they know they are genuinely loved.
On Monday mornings the second hand effortlessly circles. The stirring of drowsy crowds awakes the silence that has routinely tucked in the dreamy a night previous. Endless ranting from the breakfast bell noisily enters rooms, filling ears and heads with the promise of another day. It was replied to with the semiconscious effort of trudging to the cafeteria: right foot, left foot. The walk was long, yet every person followed the treasure-trail, enticed by the riches that awaited them: hot or cold breakfast – or both.
The cafeteria is a new planet. The glass doors that reflect the heavenly aroma of Brentwood’s cafeteria food is a portal to an undiscovered world of endless happiness, and even a pet unicorn. We indulge in the new surroundings, are absorbed by the radiated bliss. It was unregrettably worth it. Upon entry, every sense is overwhelmed: the march is transformed into a light skip, and the smell emitted from the fresh cuisine, twisting through the air to be inhaled by the restless lineup as if it was illustrated in a Disney movie.
Sublime.
The cafeteria ladies and men provide each student and staff member not only with excellent meals, but also they equip us with enough positive vibrations to the last the day, and still be contagious with positive vibes. Conserving their positive energy is unnecessary, for at Brentwood we are extremely blessed to have the opportunity to visit our food services staff four times a day: breakfast, cookie break, lunch, and dinner.
Cookie break is a personal favorite of mine.
I can not speak for other people’s favorites; however, I can honestly say that the general consensus is that not one meal is anything short of delicious; every last person is extremely thankful for the amount of talent, care, and positive energy each Brentwood food services worker brings to our community.
Thanks! Bon appetit!
