Hitting the Slopes: Winterlude 2026

On March 4th, 2026, the annual Winterlude trip was back in session for another successful year. Between 5 and 6 AM, sleepy faces and backpacks full of gear filled up the Crooks Hall parking lot as everyone boarded their buses. “It’s a really early morning, but I’m so excited to ski!” said Kate M, Alex ‘26, as she stuffed her skis into the lower compartment. While most students napped their whole journey to Mount Washington, others continued to chat along the way with their peers.

Each bus had its students write their rental numbers on their hands to make the process of getting the equipment efficient and organized. Once we arrived, we gathered in front of the buses, waiting for each other before proceeding to the Alpine Lodge. The snow was white and a bit icy, but it was a beautiful day as the sun shone through the clouds. Lines of students tried on their ski boots and helmets, laughing as they learned how not to walk in stiff boots. After gearing up, everyone split into their mixed groups right outside the lodge. “It was nice snowboarding with my friends while also getting to know others in different grades,” said Kartik M, Privett ‘26. Instructors guided us through the basics of skiing or snowboarding, while more advanced levels went down the Black Diamond runs.

While students were busy having exciting runs with a few spectacular tumbles, many others stayed safe and comfy in the Alpine Lodge, studying and conversing with each other. “It was nice staying warm inside while also being able to study for my upcoming school assignments!” commented Bernice L, Mack ‘26. For the students who still wanted to be outside, tubing and snowshoeing were activities that seemed like a hit for them! The bunny hill was full of laughter as people raced side by side, spinning and shouting all the way.

After being refuelled with lots of tasty burgers and snacks, students and staff took some time to freshen up and rest. Ms. Knorren led the cross-country skiing group and commented, “To start, Raven Lodge is the best lodge by far, and Winterlude was an amazing experience. The weather was beautiful, and nordic skiing was all about viewing nature and being peaceful!”

Some decided it was time to head back onto the mountain for the afternoon. Nearing the end of our journey, the slopes were soft with sunlight, and we could feel the day catching up with us.

When it was time to load the buses back to campus, many students rushed to return their rentals, and some were even asleep on the bus already. It was an amazing experience and, most importantly, a successful school outing! A huge thank you to our organizers, Ms Crisp and Mr Neufeld, the BFAs, teachers, houseparents, and the Ski Captains for your hard work and dedication to make this outing the best it could be.
