Ma Hero, Ma Guy, Ma BFA: Ellis House Welcomes Mr Ma

At the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the Brentwood community said goodbye to many, from graduating seniors to retiring faculty. Each of these individuals left a lasting mark on Brentwood before beginning a new chapter.

Two months later, we now welcome many new faces. One, in particular, has already become a fan favourite: our new Ellis Boarding Faculty Assistant (BFA), Mr Jaden Ma.

A recent graduate of Vancouver’s Trinity Western University, Mr Ma holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education with minors in Human Kinetics and Geography. Before university, he attended Vancouver Christian High School, where he first developed his passion for education. Before arriving at Brentwood, Mr Ma coached club basketball at TWU and worked as a summer camp program counsellor. He’s now expressing his passion for sports and community in Brentwood as one of the coaches for the Senior A Girls’ volleyball team. Fun fact: Mr Ma is also the cousin of recent Brentwood graduates, Ella & Brynn Wenhardt, Mack ‘25.

“I’ve loved getting to know Mr Ma. He is so fun to be around and is such a chill and nice guy,” Brandon R, Ellis ‘26 explains. “Whenever I see him, it just brings a smile to my face.”

Aanish T, Ellis ‘26 echoes this sentiment. “As a Grade 12, living on the same floor as Mr Ma has been a true pleasure. He’s given us a look at his house, had late-night chats with us, and loves making jokes. I am so happy he is here.”

While the transition to boarding school can be daunting for both students and staff, Mr Ma has enjoyed the move to the Island. “The Brentwood family has been so welcoming and supportive since I first arrived. Not to mention, the Ellis House boys are a joy to work with and never fail to make me laugh!” Mr Ma said.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to once again welcome Mr Ma to Ellis and the greater Brentwood community, and thank him for all he has already done for us. His genuine love for the boys, the house, and his kindness are evident and have not gone unnoticed. No matter how small or big an action may seem, passion and care go a long way, and I’m grateful to have a big brother to reach out to whenever I need anything. I can’t wait to spend the rest of the year with him in the house, making memories each step of the way.
