Mack-Ellis Senior Barbecue
It was a crisp autumn night when the Mack-Ellis Grade 12s gathered around the fire on the outdoor basketball court to celebrate the bond and unity of the two houses. This was a great opportunity to rekindle past friendships and kick off our Senior year!
The night started with a delicious barbeque organized by our Assistant Houseparents, Mr Collis Handford and Ms Manton. Then we Seniors got the chance to engage in intense games like Spikeball, Duck-Duck Goose and BUMP on the basketball court. It was fabulous practice for all of the upcoming Interhouse Events: after all, we are the reigning champions. Interhouse Captain Myra L, Mack ‘25, stated “It’s moments like these where we are reminded how lucky we are to be part of such great house families. These are people I’m going to be able to lean on forever".
The bond that Mack-Ellis shares is uniquely ours. Though we are competitive, motivated, and passionate about our houses’ legacies, most importantly, we’re a family. We celebrate with each other, laugh with each other, and lean on each other. Mr Collis Handford shared that “Mack-Ellis differentiates itself from other houses due to our determination and drive. In Mack-Ellis we pride ourselves in competition as it is an opportunity to share experiences with one another. We don't play to win just because we need to win (although we frequently do), we play because we care: and that care and passion and energy is what makes us a family”.
I am, and always will be, grateful for the relationships that being a Mackenzie Girl has gifted me. I am extremely excited to have this year with an exceptional Mack-Ellis Prefect Class. This barbecue was an excellent kickoff! On behalf of the Mack-Ellis Seniors, thanks to the Food Services Team and our Houseparents for making this so special.
Always Repping the Green and Gold,
Ella W, Mack ‘25
