Mr. Patel Comes to Town

1 March 2012
Ian M
The following is Head Prefect, Ian M's welcoming address, on behalf of the school, to the incoming Head of Brentwood College School, Mr. Bud Patel:

Hello Brentwood,

I would like to thank you, Mr. Patel, for your speech and officially, on behalf of the students whom I represent, warmly welcome you, Mrs. Patel, and your family, to Brentwood College School. Although I have never attended St. Georges nor am I from Shawnigan Lake School, I know that you have come to the right place if you seek to lead what is the best and most supportive school community I know.

The Grad Class of 2012 wishes you well though, unfortunately, we will not have the opportunity of working with you. Many wonderful students, however, eagerly await your arrival as Head of School and look forward to beginning the next stage in the evolution of Brentwood. The Grad Classes of 2013 and beyond have a fantastic opportunity to lead a new chapter of the school with you.

I remember when I was in Grade 7; I had come to Brentwood to watch my sister’s team play rugby. As I sat on the side of the field in the sun, Mrs. Pennells came and sat right down beside me on the grass and we discussed not only the game of rugby but also the sports that I was interested in at the time, and what Brentwood had to offer. In the years to follow I grew closer to the administration and Mrs. Pennells. Now as Head Prefect, I frequently talk with her on school issues and discover, every day, just how much more she does for the school, how much she influences its direction.

De Manu in Manum: From Hand to Hand is our motto. Every school must continue to change and transform as it grows. Your arrival is indeed a new milestone for the Brentwood family, for the students, for the staff, for the alumni, for our future. As Grad 2012 and Mrs. Pennells leave this summer, you and thousands of students to come will be here to carry the torch as they emerge into the global village.

Students and staff, as Mr. and Mrs. Patel leave the stage, but enter our community, would you please welcome our new Head of School and his family one more time. Ian M
