Nerd Olympics 2011
Last Sunday, Mr. Collis’ current and past English 11 AP classes competed in an annual ‘Collisal’ event: the Nerd Olympics. Consisting of various activities, the Nerd Olympics are designed to challenge the classes both physically and mentally. Out of this series of impressive tasks emerged one epic group of English Nerds, the alumni class of AP 11, 2010.
Although all teams brought a certain prowess to the game board, the alumni team, dressed as the Justice League and random Harry Potter characters, annihilated the other English 11 AP classes in all but one event. The first event of the epic competition was Ultimate Frisbee, Collis style. After the two 2011 English classes battled it out, the alumni faced the winner. With the eclectic stylings of Mike F and the creative distractions of Gavin S, the Alumni emerge victorious.
The next activity on the list was tight rope walking. Although the event was a close one, Jenny C used her circus background to win it for the alumni. With the score standing at 2-0 for the alumni, it was time for the final physical challenge: blind soccer. Each team used their own unique strategy, but in the end the alumni won again.
The final challenge of the competition was the much anticipated music quiz. Unfortunately, the alumni winning streak ended here. With challenging questions such identifying the Buffy the Vampire theme song and other obscure ‘classics’.
The day was great fun and offered a chance to break from studying. Good-luck on the rest of exams and many thanks to Mr. Collis for organizing this terrific event.
