Photography In Action
Shutter Speed.
Since September, the photography program has been progressing quickly. The sunshine-filled days made it easy for beginners to enjoy learning and feeling confident in photography class. They have been working hard, discovering how to use their manual film cameras, develop film, and print in the darkrooms.
Aperture.
The second year students have excitedly jumped into advancing their photography skills and who they are as artists. Whether in the advanced darkroom like me, or with a digital camera and a laptop like Joe K, Whittall ‘16, second year comes with many new challenges and possibilities.
The fine art students have already begun to develop a portfolio and collect images for the end-of-year art show. There is so much room for artists to further develop style and create unique photographs that both complement and inspire each other.
Focus.
The weather has turned, creating some new difficulties, but also new opportunities for the photographers as they deal with the cold and rain. The earlier darkness and rain can make it harder, especially for beginners, to properly expose pictures. Tripod anyone? The advanced artists can also work inside the studio. There is hope, however, for a bright spring and plenty of sunshine to come.
Last month, the school ‘Space’ art show showcased incredible works, everything from paintings to ceramics, but most importantly, our talented photographers. All advanced students submitted a work of theirs to the show, presenting a variety of inspiring work.
