Post-secondary Sages
As the weather grows colder and the green leaves turn gold and red, reality sets in. Long gone are the lazy days of summer - we are knee deep in the rigors of academic life! For Grade 12 students, this means that it’s time to start thinking about our quickly approaching post-graduation futures.
Fortunately, we Grade 12 students are not alone. Brentwood’s experienced team of University Counsellors is here to help us every step of the way. They support us and give us advice, fully comprehending how stressful the process of planning our futures can be. We can find them in their offices, where they promise to help us with things like writing personal statements, filing out tedious university applications, or even just figuring out what is that we want to do after we graduate. They work alongside us with determination and patience to discover what our post-graduation dreams are, and how we can achieve those dreams.
The University Counselling team consists of three star players: Mr. Rodrigues (the Director of the University Counseling office), Mrs. Coull, and the newest addition, Mr. Colistro. “Our job is to help you guys discover what you’re passionate about,” says Mrs. Coull. The counselors agree that the job can also be stressful. “You wonder, ‘did I give them the right advice?’” It’s true that they play a major role in our futures. Even though they don’t tell us what path to take, they guide us to the right questions. The outcome of our choices means a lot to them and, at the end of the day, all they want to see are satisfied Brentwood alumni who are where they belong, doing what they really enjoy.
When we are faced with impending application deadlines, stressful interviews and piles of “tell me about yourself” essays to write, all we need to do is seek out our faithful University Counsellors. They will welcome us with open arms, ready to remind us that our dreams for our futures are not too big, that they are not too far out of our reach, and that we have the capacity to reach out and seize them.
Thank you for all of your dedication and support, Mr. Rodrigues, Mrs. Coull and Mr. Colistro!
