Regatta Parking
Every year, we students are handed our job descriptions. And, every year, a handful of us are given the ultimate bore: parking duty. I was “blessed” with this volunteer opportunity last year at Regatta and after about twelve hours of waving my arms and directing people right or left, I can say that I’m thankful not to have that chore once again this year. Not to mention that the reflective vest clashed with everything I chose to wear that weekend… not a great way to cozy up to the rower boys, that is for certain.
I asked Sean B, Privett 16, who was on parking duty this morning, how he was enjoying his shift and he answered with, “Oh, it’s fine.” “Fine?” I questioned. “Well, pretty boring actually.” And so the truth comes out!
Sabin L, Whittall ‘15 informed me that he has been counting down the hours since his 6am shift started. I tried to remind him of his purpose in the matter, that without hard-working men like himself, hundreds of cars would be parked in every which way, but I don’t think I really got through to him.
Ultimately, as much as this regatta job is, indeed, important, it is not the most enjoyable one. What about boat driving or medal ceremony? How do I get those jobs?
