Rooted and Reaching: Brentwood Rugby Embraces the AAA Challenge
For over a century, rugby has been embedded in the fabric of Brentwood College School, shaping character and creating bonds that last a lifetime. From our second campus overlooking the waters of Saanich Inlet, we are thrilled to share an update on a season that marks both a milestone in our history and a bold leap into our competitive future.
The Mackenzie Legacy
Our club’s origins reach back to the founding of the School in 1923, but its modern spirit was forged during the reconstitution in Mill Bay by Head of School David Mackenzie (1961–76). A capped "rugger" for Scotland, Mr. Mackenzie coached both boys and girls with a passion that remains our north star. Today, we carry that heritage forward into a new competitive landscape.
The Ascent to AAA
The 2025/26 season marks a "promotion" for our Brentwood Senior Boys. Due to our consistent success in the AA league over the last seven years, BC School Sports has moved Brentwood into the AAA Island League this year. We will now compete against the likes of Shawnigan Lake School and Oak Bay for a provincial berth. While the transition won't be easy, we believe "good rugby is never easy," and our boys are ready to meet the challenge with grit and joy.
Momentum in the Girls & Junior Programs
Our Girls Rugby Program enters the season with significant momentum following a third-place Provincial finish last year. Under a newly merged Island League, they are focused on earning a spot in the elite Championship division. Simultaneously, our Junior Boys remain the vital engine of our future, developing the skills and camaraderie that define Brentwood Rugby.
