Running Together: Brentwood's Tribute to Terry Fox
On Sunday, September 15th, Brentwood proudly hosted its annual Terry Fox Run, a cherished tradition dedicated to raising funds for cancer research. This event honours the legacy of Canadian hero Terry Fox, whose courageous journey in 1980 continues to inspire millions worldwide.
The run, which took place along the scenic route toward the Mill Bay ferry, saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty. With each step, participants carried the spirit of Terry’s Marathon of Hope, reflecting on his bravery and the enduring importance of his mission to find a cure for cancer.
For many at Brentwood, the Terry Fox Run holds a deep personal significance. Students and staff feel a profound connection to the cause, whether through personal experiences with cancer or simply feeling inspired by Terry Fox's determination and selflessness. Head of School, Mr Chalmers shared, "It was so great to see Brentwood come together for such a great cause."
Whether running, walking, or biking, participants embraced the 5k trail. Beaming smiles lit up the course as participants from the whole Brentwood community carried excitement as the run went on. Mr McPherson expressed his deep appreciation for the sense of community on display: “Seeing students from different houses and grades come together on a sunny Sunday morning for such a meaningful cause is truly fulfilling. It was empowering to witness runners waiting for their friends at the finish line, all while enjoying the beautiful weather together.”
After the run, participants gathered at the finish line, enjoying refreshments and spending time with friends. The event generated notable funds for the Terry Fox Foundation, adding to the millions raised across Canada to support cancer research. “I always feel so empowered when participating in a cause that each of us has been impacted by,” Ms Rogers remarked, highlighting the collective spirit of the day.
Brentwood remains proud to be part of this national tradition, continuing to honour Terry Fox’s enduring legacy of hope, courage, and determination.
