Senior Musical Theatre

Start the summer off right—on stage in the spotlight! Spend the first week of July singing and dancing, while making new friendships, laughing, learning skills, and, finally, performing a full musical theatre production. Each day brings new scenes and characters to life with exciting choreography and songs that you won’t ever want to stop singing. Join us this summer as the Senior Musical Theatre Camp presents High School Musical!

Morgan & Kelli McLeod

Since 2003, Morgan is excited to return to the T. Gil Bunch, having last appeared on stage and directed Bard@Brentwood’s production of The Taming of the Shrew. Thank you to Brentwood for inviting us to come and play this summer, and a huge thanks to Kelli—one of my greatest joys is being able to do what I love with the woman I love.

Kelli has been performing her whole life. She is dedicated to nurturing and supporting young performers, making it her career. Kelli has studied and trained in New York, London, LA, and Vancouver. Her acting and choreography credits have been seen in many theatres in British Columbia. 

Phil Newns

Phil is well known as a jazz pianist, vocalist, bandleader, and educator. He studied music at the University of Natal in South Africa and later through the University of Toronto. His jazz bands, choirs, and private students achieve top honours in festivals across Canada each year—including the annual Nationals, Music Fest Canada. Extensive professional career credits include Musical Director of more than 40 major theatrical productions; most recently, Chicago, Spamalot, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and many more.

Junior Musical Theatre

All youth aged 8-12 are welcome to this camp focused on acting, singing, improvisation, creativity and fun. Students will perform the musical play The Journey of the Noble Gnarble in the T. Gil Bunch Centre theatre. Final concert at 3 pm on Friday, July 15.

Keith Digby

With a B.Ed and MFA cum laude, Keith has directed professionally at the highest levels of Canadian theatre, including Stratford Festival. His co-written screenplay, Trunk, played at the Victoria Film Festival and is now in the hands of an international distributor. His co-written stage play, Sherlock Holmes and the Canary Girls, premiered at the Kenton Theatre, Henley on Thames, UK.

VCM Junior Strings Summer Camp

The VCM Junior Strings Summer Camp gives students days filled with music, art, exploration, collaboration, and outdoor fun! We will have three individualized streams of learning, inviting a wide range of abilities, from students who are picking up the violin or cello for the very first time to those playing in chamber music ensembles.

Elyssa Lefurgey-Smith

Since moving to Victoria, BC in 2016 to be closer to family, Elyssa has been a member of both Victoria Baroque, Pacific Baroque Orchestra in Vancouver, and has been invited as a regular guest director of the Per Sonatori baroque ensemble in Regina. In addition to performing, Elyssa is an enthusiastic and passionate educator and has been involved in teaching, coaching, and program development for over 15 years. 

Maria Wang

After pursuing her B.Mus at West Virginia University, Maria moved to Victoria and completed her M.Mus in Cello Performance at UVic in 2014. She teaches the Strings and Wind Ensemble at Brentwood College School, directs the SD62 Sooke String Orchestra, and is headteacher of strings at the Harmony Project Sooke. Aside from teaching, she is also Principal Cello in the Sooke Philharmonic.

The boarding summer camp programs hosted at Brentwood College School empower and encourage the exploration of Canada through our unique language curriculum in a "Sea-to-Sky" environment. Kingswood's synergistic camps are tailored for students 7-17 years old, to promote a safe and social setting for fast-track fluency and long-term language retention while experiencing Canada. Highly qualified Canadian teachers, activity counsellors, linguistic and sport coaches open a new world of culture and guide language through ‘action’. Visits to world-renowned sites reflect on the daily themes of the lesson plans, creating a cohesive and unforgettable experience. Applications must be received by May 27, 2022.

Rock Band

This beginner to intermediate camp will focus on popular music of all commercial styles: rock, pop, country, hip-hop—with improvisation and creativity. It will offer practical, audio, and performance opportunities with an emphasis on the current music scene. Participants will explore and gain an understanding of the audio/visual equipment used by rock bands for performance and recording. Further instruction will be given in band etiquette, instrument role, microphone technique, balance, blending, mixing, lead singing, dynamics, and showmanship. Instruments will be provided but feel free to bring your own!

The group will assemble by 8:45 am on Monday, rehearse throughout the week, and take part in a final performance at 11 am on Friday, July 22.

Scott McGill

Scott gained industry attention with the release of two notable independent albums nominated for esteemed music awards: in 1997, the album First Time won runner-up at the YTV Youth Achievement Awards. In 2000, Check the Hype was nominated Best New Indie Album at the influential West Coast Music Awards. Scott has been and is still part of a variety of musical acts and can be found playing all over Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.  

Vancouver Island Music Academy

The Vancouver Island Music Academy strives to offer the most immersive and supportive musical environment, where every student is welcome, regardless of age, level, musical background, or experience. We believe that being a musician is more than just playing an instrument at a high level and, as such, each student who attends VIMA learns how to be a versatile and well-rounded musician.

Jacob Lakirovich

Jacob Lakirovich has held numerous positions in orchestras all over the world. His students have won Gold Medals in the RCM Examinations, and are the top prize winners of various international and Canadian violin competitions. Throughout the years, many of his students have been laureates of the Cremona International Competition for Strings in Italy.

David Lakirovich

A passionate chamber musician, David Lakirovich has collaborated with Peter Salaff, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Ilya Kaler, Mark Kosower, Atar Arad, William Wolfram, Alina Ibragimova and Vadim Gluzman. He is currently on faculty at the Vancouver Academy of Music and the VSO School of Music.

Nike Soccer Camp

Nike Soccer Camp will be holding another exciting summer day program at Brentwood College School. Instruction is available to youth of all skill levels. Our goal is to ensure that we create an environment that allows players to explore and take risks while feeling safe to make mistakes as this is crucial to their development as young soccer players. Be prepared to have fun in the sun by the ocean on our new turf field, work hard and learn new game concepts. Check-in is 8:30 am at the Foote Athletic Centre. We recommend bringing soccer cleats, shin pads, sunscreen, and water bottles.

Wesley Barrett

Wesley has spent over a decade coaching soccer, and is the co-founder of an organization called EPIC Sport Management Society. He completed his degree in Recreation and Health from UVic, and has held roles of Head Coach of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Northern Academy and Assistant Coach with the UNBC Timberwolves men's and women's programs. He continues to run and facilitate EPIC while serving as Head of Soccer at Brentwood College School.
