What is BRAIN?

Brentwood Research Action & Innovation in Neuroscience is a group of Brentwood students and alumni collaborating to get high school students involved in neuroscience studies.

Neuroscience and other specializations are typically only available after several years of university, restricting the ability of young scientists to make a difference in this field. BRAIN allows Brentwood students to dive into these areas and contribute meaningfully, alongside global leaders in research.

BRAIN and Brentwood

We are studying high school athletes, to determine if repeated head impacts in sport can affect cognitive ability. There is a large need for research regarding head impacts in this age group; participation in our study can further the medical and science community's understanding in this area and help prevent unnecessary harm in the future.

How You Can Contribute

As a participant, you are a part of either a contact or non-contact sports group. Each group will be scanned with the Neurocatch device at the beginning of each term you choose to participate. The scan is non-invasive and will take about 10-20 minutes of your time. At the end of each term, the group will be scanned again to measure the overall cognitive change participation in your sport has made. Volunteer hours will also be given to scanners for their time and effort.
