Acacia Blooms

Each week, student volunteers give their free time to the elderly residents at Acacia Lodge. Acacia is a retirement home in the village of Shawnigan Lake for those suffering specifically from Alzheimer’s and dementia. Students spend time interacting with the residents, walking, reading books, and chatting. The fulltime caregivers are always happy to have fresh, new faces there to socialize and provide a little change for the seniors. It is a rewarding experience for the students as well, such as getting to see a 99-year-old woman be able to put together a puzzle on her own, and the joy it brings her. Brentwood looks forward to continuing our relationship with Acacia Lodge, and offering the opportunity for students to volunteer and spend time with their residents. Joe L, Ellis ‘14
