High Performance Gym Hits Campus

17 January 2011
Over the Christmas Break, Brentwood’s maintenance department, along with Mr. Healy and Mr. Medina, worked extremely hard to put together a new varsity training centre. The facility is located in the old auditorium, beneath the former dining hall. This space was previously used for school assemblies and student social functions like Java Hut before the construction of the McNeill Centre.

The gym features a full range of training equipment and is almost three times the size of the previous weight room, a welcome benefit that any gym aficionado would love. This facility will benefit the group of athletes involved with varsity training, and others on a drop in basis. Mr. Healy, Head of Rugby and Strength & Conditioning, is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (C.S.C.S.) and works in conjunction with Ms. Scheck who holds a degree in Kinesiology. As well, Ms. Deal-Porter provides additional coaching support for all Varsity Strength and Conditioning sessions. The team instructs athletes in the facility 12 hours a week, from 2 pm to 6:00 pm, on Fine Arts afternoons. On sports afternoons it is used by Cross training.

It is a facility designed for all students and staff and is open to everyone interested outside of the prescribed class times.
