Hip Hop Happy
Each year, Brentwood offers a wide range of sport options. The selections change with the terms and range from sailing to squash, and weight training to hockey. This year, a new and exciting program was established. For the first time, with the leadership of Jazleen D, Brentwood established a Hip hop dance program on sport afternoons.
The program is open to both experienced and novice dancers who have an interest in learning the basics of Hip hop. Sponsored by Mrs. Andrea Felix, the program is taught by the talented Brooke Kilgore. Brooke runs Vibestreet dance studio in Victoria, and is also a member of the V!CTORiOUS Hip hop dance crew.
As a sport option, Hip hop dance has attracted a large number of students, 43 in fact, boys and girls. In speaking with members of the advanced group, they seem to be enjoying the class very much, finding it both challenging and fun. It is clear that Brooke’s enthusiasm for teaching, as well as her love of Hip hop, has been transmitted to her students.
I was given the opportunity to sit in on one of the practices, and was very impressed by the level at which the members of the group were dancing. The class had a very upbeat and fun atmosphere, which could be attributed to both its participants and leaders. Given its success this year, hopefully the Hip hop program at Brentwood is here to stay!
