Senior Boys Earn Tough Home Win
The sun beamed down on Brentwood on what was a beautiful Saturday afternoon last week: the weather was great for rugby, albeit a little too hot. The Senior Boys Rugby team arrived on Gillespie field at 1:10 for a brisk warm-up before the 1:45 kickoff. The opposing side, Earl Marriott Secondary, were also getting prepared for the game in their white jersey that contrasted with our black ones.
After a disappointing loss against St. George’s, the Brentwood boys were hungry for a win. As the game started it was obvious that it was going to be a tough and physical game. EMS came at us hard but we defended against their offensive onslaught quite effectively until one of their members managed to slip through the cracks and score.
After Mr. Langer gave us some pointers under the posts, we went back at EMS with new vigor. We managed to steal the ball only a few plays in and shot it out wide to score a magnificent try from our end on the wing. Santiago G Privett ‘17 then gained the team an extra two points by making a spectacular kick despite the distance.
With our newly gained confidence, we fought hard against EMS and drove them back keeping them on their heels for the rest of the game. After some more great tries from William P ‘17 and Lucas P ‘17 the boys netted a hard-fought win.
This weekend we host the CAIS Championship Tournament. See you on Gillespie Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
