School Ski Day – Soggy but Sanguine

The last Wednesday in January, the day many had been waiting for since last year’s cancellation due to overly warm weather conditions, finally arrived. School Ski Day was back in action! Though Musical students couldn’t attend due to a full cast rehearsal, and some boarders decided to stay on campus for rest or academic catch up, the turnout was even better than expected. Though the weather called for rain, nothing could faze our Brentwood community as hundreds of sleepy faces arrived in Crooks Hall for a 5:30am breakfast before hitting the slopes. Sadly, I was one of the students plagued by the flu so I was unable to attend but I got a full report from my roommate after her re-entry to the Brentwood campus. According to her, the conditions were less than favorable as the mountain was blanketed by an overwhelming rainstorm resulting in many students taking a new fashion statement to the mountain, garbage bags. However, as our students often do, they made the best out of the day getting in a variety of runs before they were called back to the bus late in the afternoon. The Brentwood community would like to send a huge thank you to Mr. Varro, and the rest of the faculty involved for organizing and managing the day. We can’t wait for next year. Get ready Mt. Washington; we’re coming for you! For those who can’t wait that long, the regular Sunday ski trips will continue until the end of the term – and this weekend’s weather forecast calls for fresh powder. Audrey K, ’16
