Angela Andersen was raised on forested family acreage in Metchosin, B.C. This is reflected in her long-term studio focus of ‘tree portraits’. Ms. Andersen’s work appears in collections throughout Canada and the U.S. Her paintings have been curated into the Sooke Fine Arts Show for multiple years, and her piece ‘Ghost’ won ‘Best in Show’ at the Cowichan Valley Fine Arts Show in 2021. A lifelong creative; Ms. Andersen enjoys experimenting with multiple mediums and processes, always striving to connect with and reflect the natural environment of the Island and her off-grid home and studio in West Shawnigan. Her career as an art and art history educator began with a teaching contract at an international high school in Italy. With over 20 years of experience across multiple visual art disciplines, Ms. Andersen’s practice is centred on developing student capacity for community and leadership through creative pursuits. During her time on the Cowichan Valley Arts Council board, she initiated their first annual student art exhibition in the spring of 2020. In 2017 she was awarded the Duncan Business Association Shirley McGuinness Memorial Award for her leadership in public art collaborations in the City of Duncan. Ms. Andersen’s hobbies include researching and engaging in land restoration practices, gardening, foraging, and making natural healing products. She is the proud mom of two young women and loves to ‘dream and scheme’ with her artist husband over morning coffee.
Ivana Cappelletto

Ivana Cappelletto is an artist, designer, educator, and former elite athlete whose career has brought together creativity, design, movement, and a passion for learning.
Born in Genova, Italy, and raised in Edmonton, Ms. Cappelletto began skiing at three and ballet at seven, eventually becoming a pre-professional dancer with Alberta Ballet. She studied Visual Communications and Industrial Design at the University of Alberta and earned her Master’s in Visual Communication from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan.
Ivana Cappelletto competed internationally in track cycling, representing Canada and Italy at four World Championships. She was ranked the number one female track sprinter in Canada for four consecutive years. Her athletic career taught her discipline, perseverance, and the importance of pushing beyond perceived limitations.
Her professional design career included work with Cinelli, Columbus, and Gran Ciclismo in Milan, followed by founding Cappelletto Design Group in Vancouver. Her work has included branding, identity, packaging, product development, and marketing.
Ms. Cappelletto has taught Foundation Art and Design at Emily Carr, Langara, SFU, and Vancouver Film School and now brings her professional design experience to the 2D Art Foundations program at Brentwood College School.
Brentwood’s tripartite philosophy strongly resonates with Ivana Cappelletto because her own creative practice has always grown from the connection between art, sport, and life. Much of her artwork and design has been inspired by her experiences as an athlete, particularly the movement and energy of cycling and dance. She still competes in hip hop dance today!
In the classroom, Ms. Cappelletto encourages students to think like artists and designers, take creative risks, and develop their own visual language. Her guiding belief is simple: your best work should come from your passion. When students connect what they love with what they create, their work becomes more authentic, purposeful, and powerful.
2D Art
The 2D Art Program develops skills to allow students to have the courage and confidence to express themselves creatively. Working in a variety of styles, at all skill levels, our students are guided by instructors with extensive experience. In order to maximise learning opportunities for visual artists, and nurture excellence at all levels of performance, we offer courses for both beginners and advanced students. Our modern studios and expansive art gallery provide the perfect canvas for our artists to develop and showcase their talents.
Studios
The Centre for Arts and Humanities is home to our dedicated 3,600 sq. ft. of visual arts studios. Large windows provide natural light and ocean views to inspire our students. Each of our two main studios are equipped with easels, sinks, smocks, and ample table space. Advanced students working on dedicated projects can find extra room in the AP Studio—where they work on traditional 2D pieces, 3D sculpture, fashion, and everything in between.
Art Gallery
The expansive main corridor of the Centre for Arts and Humanities is the home of our largest campus art gallery. Student work from all areas of the arts program is displayed on the multi-tiered walls of this oceanfront space. Students’ art pieces are also curated and accessible throughout other buildings on campus—including special selections that form the unique Kyrsa Collection of Brentonian Art.
