A Day in the Life

On March 4th during the bustling last few weeks of school before Spring Break, 25 Brentwood parents and grandparents went back to high school. The Experience Brentwood program was created by the school to allow parents to experience what a day in the life of their child is like. We wanted parents to feel more engaged with the Brentwood community and the best way to do this was for parents to come to Brentwood during an arts afternoon and experience (in a shortened time period) what their children do every day. The parents first learned to row in the boathouse from 12:30 to 2:00. Then they got to try a little bit of pottery, and observed the photography and wind ensemble classes before attending an academic Ethics lecture by Mr. Neufeld which parents said they found academically stimulating. The group later tried 2D & 3D art before ending the afternoon with some drama activities, hearing the choir and viewing the dance electives. It was a busy day but one filled with fun and new experiences. Ms. Lara McDonald plans months in advance organizing with faculty when the best time for parents to come and partake in their classes would be. She said that the program was successful and generated positive responses every year: the arts faculty are very accommodating and the parents are always eager to try new things. Experience Brentwood truly captures a day in a Brentwood student’s life from stimulating and vigorous academics to the work put into the sports and arts programs. A big thank you to Mrs. McDonald for organizing this opportunity, the faculty members who accommodated the parents in their busy day, and finally the parents and grandparents for partaking in the program and making it possible for us to attend this amazing school.
