Hockey – The Season on Ice

The Brentwood Hockey program enjoyed another fun and successful year in 2015-2016. This year, filled with more games than ever before, had a lot in store for the program. We were all very proud and honored to wear the Brentwood “B” out on the ice. Both teams represented the school very well giving it their all every game. The Brentwood 1st Varsity team was able to repeat as champions in the Cowichan Valley High School League with an undefeated record. In late January the Varsity team had the chance to travel across the country on the Eastern Canadian tour through Toronto, Ottawa, and ultimately, Montreal. These games would bring a new challenge to our team as we entered a contact tournament. On top of playing, the tour gave us the chance to take in a couple of NHL games, which included a game at the historic Bell Centre in Montreal. As all our hockey seasons do at Brentwood, we finished with the annual Ross Cup hosted at Kerry Park. The tournament was being held for the 17th year and Brentwood was hungry to finally put its name on the trophy and in the history books. With a 5-2 win in the semifinals against St. George’s, the boys earned a berth in the final. Facing a tough team from Kitsilano, the boys played their best hockey of the season and came away with a dominant 4-1 victory giving Brentwood its first ever Ross Cup Championship. Everyone in the program would like to thank the coaches, Mr Shadlock, Mr McPherson, Mr Kleinschmidt and Mr Varro for all of their work with us this year. A big thank you must also go to Mr Flynn: his undeniable dedication to this program has made this year one to remember. Lastly, I would like to thank all of the players in the Brentwood Hockey program; you all made my final year of hockey so memorable.
