This past weekend, University of Victoria Philosophy Professor, Dr. David Scott, came to talk to Brentwood students about his subject. Rather than deliver a lecture, Dr. Scott answered questions and prompted students into saying what they thought philosophy was and why it might be important. An hour passed very quickly with students providing a range of questions and Dr. Scott giving them lots of food for thought. Ben W, Rogers ‘16 even stirred up a tempest about Bertrand Russell’s celestial teapot! Some of Mr Ganley’s English students, who have elected to take the Philosophy as a genre unit in English 10, were there to widen their understanding. The “Theory of Knowledge” is a subject we would dearly like to see back on the curriculum map of electives together with a World Religions course.
