A Servant of Two Masters

A Servant of Two Masters, written by Carlo Goldoni in 1743, was an attempt at reviving comedia dell’arte by showing the dialogue and still leaving room for improvisation. Brentwood’s production ran for five nights and every actor and actress performed with the utmost effort, night after night. Michael G, Privett ‘17 was a main cast member and portrayed the humorous Truffaldino, which was a critical member of the play. The 4th wall was constantly broken by actors and this really got the audience involved with the play. As Michael said “It was a great experience and a comic rollercoaster all the way through.” This element really comes to life when applied to how it was during the last night of the act, when some of the cast forgot their lines and had to improvise, while the audience had no idea this was happening and thought it was all part of the script.
