Senior Girls Soccer 1

The Senior Girls Soccer team competed in the ISA tournament this past weekend and fought hard for a 5th place finish. Saturday was a long day for the team as we played three tiring games. We battled endlessly in our first game against Collingwood. A few unlucky calls made by the ref ended in a 2-1 loss for the team but that didn’t let us down. We came out strong in the second match against St. Margaret’s later that day, and managed to pull off an incredible result beating them 6 – 0. After gaining a little more confidence, we went into our last match of the day feeling strong, even after having already played two games. We faced GNS and it was an extremely composed game of soccer. GNS scored early in the first half but not one player let that affect her game and each individual continued to put in that extra effort. “It was some of the best soccer the girls have ever played” said our coach, Mr. Gord Horth. Three minutes to go in the second half, and Sarah L took a free kick from just over the half line and knocked it into Takara C’s feet where she put the ball right into the net. After a quick burst of excitement and many parents cheering on the sidelines, the ref put his hand in the air and made another unlucky call: the goal was offside. It was an unfortunate loss for the girls and meant that we would not forward in the tournament. Saturday, however, we came out strong one more time to play for a 5th place finish against Aberdeen. The girls won 4-1 and had an incredible last game of the tournament.
