Another demanding season under the Senior Girls Volleyball team’s belt left fourteen girls with experiences they will never forget and a bond that only a team can build. Throughout the term we found success and faced challenges resulting in a season that must be described as resilient. The friendships built throughout the season made coming to practice each day something we all looked forward to, no matter the place or time, such as early morning varsity gym workouts or late night practices to get in those few extra touches. We were determined to be the best athletes we could be, and were not afraid to put in the work to achieve our goals. The numerous tournaments the team attended were filled with triumphant wins and a few heart-breaking losses. Successful appearances at VIU and Crofton House for ISAs proved to ourselves and our opponents that we were not a team to take lightly. As our regular season came to an end, we lit a fire, starting playoffs by winning Islands and securing a berth to Provincials. The road (or more accurately, flight) to Provincials brought the girls to the heart of British Columbia: Vanderhoof. With a somewhat rocky start, we placed third in pool play. Although it was not quite the expected outcome, the team remained in good spirits and headed into the vital crossover match against Saint Thomas Moore. This game brought out the battle in our team and our odds were looking good. Unfortunately, in a tight second set we were faced with a large setback in the form of an injury. Although emotions were running high, the team continued to play at an intense level. With a final outcome of twelfth in the province, the team headed back home, thankful for the past couple of months spent together. I would like to thank our coach, Ms Jill Fougner, and recognize everyone who helped our team. Without them we would not have greatly improved our skills, nor have had such an amazing time together.
