Shawnigan Lake Regatta – Junior Crews

The Shawnigan Lake Regatta is always an event everyone is excited for. Not only because you see all the people you meet at Brentwood Regatta again, but because it is also a weekend full of exciting races. From May 11th to 13th Junior and Senior crews gave their best in the tough 2km race to earn medals. This is the longest race that has taken place since the beginning of the season that the Juniors attended, and it was a challenge, especially for the novices. Everyone has been working hard to do well and it definitely paid off. This event was the last one before the national championships and the rowers are showing their skill before they compete with crews from all over Canada. The Junior girls with coxswain Maria T, Allard ‘21 managed to get 3rd in the 8+, and 4th in the 4+. Claire S ,Allard ‘21 also won Bronze in a Single. The Novice Men’s 4x+ placed 3rd and the 8+ 3rd. Thomas L and Karl D, Rogers ‘20 & ‘21 won Gold in the Under 17 Men’s Double with the amazing time of 7:27.73 in a 2km race. Overall, the Brentwood junior boys got the 2nd most points and the girls 7th with a total of 175 points. The beautiful and warm weather made this regatta a unique experience for rowing and also enjoying the first few sunny days at Shawnigan Lake. The coaches were pleased with the overall results and Sloane J, Allard ‘21 says it was really fun and one of her favourite regattas so far because the atmosphere was laid back and the weather was the best we’ve had.
