The annual Showcase volleyball game against Shawnigan Lake School took place this past Thursday in the new Foote Centre. Shawnigan arrived with a bus full of supporters to cheer on their team.  Two seas covered the bleachers. One of a distinct yellow and one of a bold red. Both had black intermixed throughout. Both schools amped up their sound and excitement for the game ahead. The warm-up was firey and intense as both teams slammed the ball on opposite sides of the net. Only Brentwood knows how to mix such great intensity with perfect poise and grace. The crowd was loud and proud with the encouragement of the Shawnigan mascot that initiated a crowd wave to get the cheering off to a powerful start.  Showcase events are always an entire school event. Both boarders and day students come to the gym to show their support for their peers. “Showcase is an exciting time for everyone to come together and show our support for the girls. They killed it out there!” observed Lindsey P, Allard ‘19.  Brentwood and Shawnigan battled it out fiercely, staying within a few points of each other with one slightly pulling ahead every few serves. Shawnigan was the first to call a timeout with the score 15-11 in favour of Brentwood. This allowed Coach Fougner to give her girls a quick pep talk before they went back out there to kill it! The first set was nabbed by Brentwood 25-22. In the second set, the girls started to fall behind slightly, but this didn’t scare them. It just made them hungrier for victory. Powerhouse Camryn C, Alex ‘19 hit some pretty serious balls straight down onto Shawnigan’s side of the court, scoring points here and there, throughout the two sets. Brentwood won the second set, which won them the game against Shawnigan.  Showcase events are whole-school gatherings. Whether the students and faculty like volleyball or not, they all come out, full of support and enthusiasm. We look forward to the Showcase events that are still to come! Hannah C, Alex ‘19
