This fall, Brentwood’s Varsity Volleyball team experienced a first term like no other. With eight returning Grade 12s and six new players, the team was driven and optimistic for a successful season. Our girls found many triumphs and faced many challenges, which made our bond as a team stronger. The girls stepped up and always gave it their all on the court. The team faced hours of demanding practices and sacrificed many days for our busy tournament schedule. From day one, each individual on the team was ready to push herself to her best ability in order to reach our goals for the season. Our season was filled with triumphant wins and a few heartbreaking losses. The first couple of tournaments were met with many ups and downs but provided us with the building blocks necessary for success. Our team was in great shape leading up to our team-building trip to California during November midterm, with an astonishing 3rd place finish at ISA’s under our belts. We returned from our vacation driven for success, and came back to place 1st at North Islands. Islands proved to be a obstacle for the team, with two heartbreaking losses which meant the loss of a berth to provincials. The following weekend the girls fought hard to prove themselves worthy of a place at provincials, but, unfortunately, did not qualify. Despite the outcome, the girls proved they were a force to be reckoned with. As Captain and Assistant Captain, we could not be more proud of this team and the grit which they demonstrated when facing adversity. The past couple of months spent together were filled with memories which will stick with us for a lifetime. We would like to thank our coach, Ms Jill Fougner, for all the time and effort she sacrificed for this team, and sticking with us through thick and thin.
