Right from the beginning of our season, our team knew that we were going to have a tough year, with almost everyone being new. Not only were people new to the school, they were also new to the sport. With all the new players, it took us a couple of practices to get into our groove, but once we got our rotations down pat we really started working hard and playing as a team.  Our team ranged from Grades 8 to 10 and this year was the first time we had three 8s on the Junior A team. Despite their age, Ella, Jensa & Miranda stepped up and were confident on the court even when playing against girls who were two years older than them.  Unfortunately, during our season we lost a couple of players which meant we had to change up some positions. It was difficult to get used to playing with people in different positions but eventually we worked it out and showed that no matter what, we could work as a team. Our team improved greatly throughout the season and with a lot of hard work and determination we managed to maintain the Junior Girls streak of winning Mid-Islands which gave us a spot in Islands. Going into Islands we knew it would be challenging but that didn’t stop us from working hard. It was the hardest tournament that we competed in and we played against the best of the best from all over Vancouver Island.  Each player improved immensely throughout our season, and during the time we spent together we learned each other’s strengths and weaknesses which helped us make decisions on the court. Thank you to Ms Hall and Mr Minckler for dedicating their time to helping us improve our skills and motivating us to pursue volleyball in the years to come. Abigail S, Mackenzie ‘21
