Why is Brentwood A Good School
Brentwood College School is a co-ed boarding school that is located on the West Coast of Canada. It contains a variety of cultures and nationalities. As of last June 19th, 2019, I finished my first school year in Brentwood, in Ellis House – The Best House.
In my first year, I had my struggles with academics, but I have found ways to improve through the help of many wonderful and helpful teachers at our school. This year I have also acquired many new friends and skills that I never thought could be accomplished, such as rugby.
Before coming to Brentwood, I have never really played sports competitively. But now I have played rugby competitively for the whole school year. The reason why I love this sport so much is that it’s a sport that always begins the first and ends the last on any given sports day. Moreover, we never stop training even if it is raining or snowing outside. I guess this is what Mr. Patel, Head of School, means by Grit.
When you live in a house that’s filled with 50 teenage boys for a year or more, it is usual to see people running down the hallway only in their underwear. Of course, people are always pulling pranks on each other all the time. But it is also because of these that boarding life is unique and fun. For example, the night before April Fools Day, when all of the boys were sleeping, someone decided to switch everyone’s shoes around the house and to block the hallway with couches. When we woke up that day, we had to find our shoes first, then move the couches out of the way to get to Crooks Hall to eat. To this day, we still don’t know who did this, but we have “interrogated” many “suspected suspects”. In summary, you will never know how much joy you can experience in your boarding life until you are here.
In the end, when you have lived with these boys for a year or more, they are not just your friends, they become your brothers. You have learned to look after each other’s back and begun to understand the real meaning of brotherhood. When we lose the Grade 12s at the end of the school year, we become very emotional people. Tearfest.
So, why is Brentwood a good school? Well, I believe it is because we value and work upon “Grit and Joy”.
