The school year marked many wonderful changes for Allard & began with perhaps the most exciting of them all. In September, not only did we welcome our newest mermaids, but also our fearless leader Mrs Amiel & her family. We have spent just shy of a year together, but I’m sure the girls would agree when I say that our time in Allard has proved our community’s impressive ability to take strangers from all corners of the planet & turn them into family.

While mermaid traditions were upheld, such as the rose ceremony with Rogers after a busy Orientation night of Fun & Games, many adjustments were made throughout the year to define the beginning of a new chapter in Allard’s history: common-room furniture was reconfigured, Valentine’s Day trick or treating made a debut & our first RAD skate night helped us bond with the lovable Rogers pirates. Hosting guest inspectors, including Mr Patel & a special visit from our favorite Mama Carr, also established a new set of mermaid standards for the years to come, as well as gave us the chance to show off our serenading skills with a classic rendition of our house song, “Lean On Me.”

Every year in Allard proves to be significant. I am particularly impressed by this group’s ability to step up despite all odds to support their house & our collective desire to foster the cross-grade relationships that make our family so special. When our Big/Little Sister events seemed to be lacking, our co-joy prefects took on the challenge of redesigning Gywnn Groups. When we were on an unfortunate losing streak with the IH competition, we rallied our troops & took 3 wins in a row & when no one wanted to get out of bed on a cold January morning, Allard mermaids were among the first in for the polar bear swim. Thank you also to this year’s lifers, Aatya, Reece, Cailine & Jessica, who have been dedicated members of our house for a quadrennial.

It has been a monumental year for our house & one that none of us will forget.
