Brentwood’s Two Thanksgivings

The Thanksgiving holiday in North America originated as a day to give thanks and celebrate the harvests. The theme of the holiday revolves around the centerpiece of Thanksgiving celebrations: a Thanksgiving dinner. Which is exactly what Brentwood produces every year.

A scrumptious and appetizing dinner is served in Crooks Hall as the school is gathered to celebrate as one. It’s a meal where giving thanks to others around you is common courtesy. Showing gratitude to the kitchen staff for the amazing meal, expressing appreciation towards your houseparents and teachers, and reflecting on what you are thankful for in your life are all things one can do while enjoying the flavorful entree.

After we reflected on everything we are thankful for, students and staff were invited to Brentwood’s annual Thanksgiving Art Show full of novel pieces. From paintings, portraits, sculptures, and even live music, the Art Show did not disappoint.

“Having the opportunity to play background or lounge music for the admiring and well mannered audience was really a nice treat” recognized Ariel C, Privett ‘23 as he played drums throughout the show. “Thanksgiving dinner at Brentwood never disappoints. It’s nice to get the whole school together and the food is always awesome” shares Sebastian M, Privett ‘22.

Both Canadian and American Thanksgiving are holidays that Brentwood is eager to celebrate. It does so through two full school meals, a wonderful Art Show, and giving the people attending time to reflect on what they’re most thankful for in their lives. One can never say thanks enough.
