The Escape to Fashion

Although we all love our fashionable, totally comfortable, uniform, it’s often nice to escape the shackles of the school customs and express your true self. Spirit Week is the opportunity to feel free and alive. Along with the fun and games setup – like Mario Kart and Jenga – Spirit Week offers five dress up days!

Nothing is worse than waking up Monday morning and having to get ready for the day. Pajama Day made it possible for efficient students to roll out of bed without a worry in the world. Although loved by us, teachers found it especially difficult to keep the class awake on this day.

Tuesday rolled around with everyone’s favourite: Twin Day. Planning can be hard, but with Twin Day students take on the challenge of thinking more than five seconds ahead. With all the brilliant coordination, you can find the campus littered with twins. Real twin Emily P, Mackenzie ‘22 found it, “unnerving to not be special anymore.” Some teachers certainly found it hard to differentiate between all the twins on campus. I even overheard some of them saying they were stopping by LensCrafters later that afternoon.

Wednesday, the day of groutfits. Monochrome Day covered campus in an array of bright colours: grey, black, white – and the one guy in yellow. In reality it was great to see to the extent people would go to make their fit match. Except for Will P, Whittall ‘22. I did not want to see what was underneath the pants …

Thursday: Number One’s …

With the pandemic, it has been hard for many to travel, so the SAC decided to bring the travelling on campus with Tacky Tourist Day. Many saw this as the perfect opportunity to pull out their beloved Hawaiian shirts. And it was.

What better way to end Spirit Week than with some school spirit. Saturday saw the campus covered in red and black. This was a Whittall favourite with all the boys feeling right at home.

“Despite the numerous changes to the Spirit Week schedule, the constant was the joy and excitement over our various dress up days. One of my favourite things was also seeing the teachers indulge in the dress up days, so in the end the whole campus was filled with the spirit of our community” observed the Head of the SAC, Anna D, Allard ‘22.
