Last Wednesday, February 16th our student-organized Kindness Week began. The week brought convivial activities, delicious dinners, playful puppies and a kindhearted sentiment among students and the staff.

Kindness Week is a Brentwood tradition organized by the SAC along with B-WELL, in hopes of relieving some stress associated with end-of-term assessments. Mr McCarthy’s AP Bio 11 class appreciated Mr McCarthy’s soft spot: “Because It’s Kindness Week, please do not stress about your assignments. There will be no homework this week!” It truly is little acts of kindness like this that make your week 10x better …

The week kicked off on Wednesday, February 16th with the interhouse sorting challenge and ended Wednesday, 23rd with Pink Shirt Day and cupcakes!

On Day 1, students enjoyed a fantastic Chinese dinner to celebrate the Lunar New Year, then on Thursday, we shifted our focus to our wonderful staff for Staff Appreciation Day! On Friday, during lunch, “The Puppy Room” allowed Brentwood canines to grace us with a visit. The kindness marathon continued with Karaoke in the caf and crafts with Ms Ramsay and on Monday, February 21st, Brentwood participated in the Canadian Blood Services blood drive. Thanks to our community making generous donations, others now have the opportunity to save multiple lives in our community. It was emotive to see many students donate: “I decided to donate because I figured if I’m able to I may as well do it and help others who are in need” avowed Ainsley D, Alex ‘22.

During the week students are encouraged to do an anonymous act of kindness that could brighten someone’s day. A Kindness Tree was set up in McNeill’s cafe, each day with a different prompt; by the end of the week kindness had bloomed, and the tree was filled with sticky notes highlighting kind gestures.

Particular thanks to Ms Ramsey, Ms Murray, Anna D, Allard ‘22,  SAC Captain, and all the student and staff volunteers for organizing such an enjoyable week!

Sending lots of kindness!
