What Do I Want To Be?
Your alarm goes off. Sluggishly and reluctantly you get out of your warm, cozy bed. You stare at your uniform mindlessly draped over your chair. “Gosh I really do not want to put that on today” you say. And then you remember: It’s Career Dress Up Day!
Now what do I want to be?
This question raced through the minds of hundreds of Brentwood students that Friday morning. Eventually, after rummaging through piles of clothes, everyone had the outfit they were looking for. “I set my alarm for 5 AM and it took me hours to muster the perfect fit for such an exquisite occasion” said Academic Prefect Will P, Whittall ‘22.
Walking to class, you could see the creative flare within every student. Outfits ranged from all professions. We had our farmers, athletes, doctors, and more. Of course, we also had our enterprising entrepreneurs in their classic blue suits. The costumes were really out of this world. For example, the group of astronauts who had creatively and definitely not last-minute printed NASA logos and taped them to their hoodies.
And then there were some who decided against expressing that creative flare.
Some students were found to be less ambitious. With our Uber drivers, Twitch streamers and stay-at-home parents, who had seemingly seen this as an opportunity to get away with a very casual outfit.
Despite the few grinches across campus, “The whole dress up day was really fun. It was great to see what everyone aspired to be,” said Jai S, Rogers ‘23. Dress up days like this one boost campus morale by giving students the chance to express themselves – and perhaps find a fulfilling career.
